Step Toward a Goal

Welcome to the team! The Wheat Foods Council is proud to partner with seeMOMMYrun to create a “Mom, the Everyday Athlete” nationwide run/walk on Saturday, May 19, 2007. The event enables moms at any fitness level to unite, improve their health and set a world record for the most steps taken by moms in one day.

Now that you you have determined your daily activity, it is time to set goals! Depending on your fitness level, your goals will differ, and as you successfully reach goals, remember to set new ones.

After the WorkoutYou can use steps or minutes to measure your goals and determine success. Think of the following as fitness benchmarks for moms everywhere.  It's how you get there that differs:

• 30 minutes or more of moderate activity most days of the week in addition to your standard daily activity

• 10,000 steps or more per day*

If you identified your activity level by using our survey, review the below chart to determine your activity goal.

Activity Level   Additional Weekly Activity
Sedentary Add any of the below:
• 100 - 300 steps
• 1 - 5 minutes of activity

Moderately Active Add any of the below:
• 300 - 600 steps
• 5 - 8 minutes of activity

Highly Active Add any of the below:
• 600 – 1,000 steps
• 8 - 12 minutes of activity

If you identified your activity level by using a pedometer, use the following formula to determine your activity goal.

If your “average steps per day” is less than 10,000, subtract that number from 10,000 to determine the amount of additional steps required each day.

To track your steps and keep motivated, use the step tracker.

* Arizona State University - On average, 5,000 to 7,000 steps are taken during standard daily activity and 30 minutes of additional activity equals 3,000 to 4,000 steps
